CK Birla Hospitals CMRI is proud to take care of a 108-year-old patient, Mrs. Padomani Sardar. She belongs to a nearby district of Kolkata, Champahati and lives there with her family. Her visitors in the hospital are her 4th generation who describes her as an acute loving great great grandmother. Her sons who are now retired from their respective jobs take good care of their mother and make sure she is always in good health. However, due to some physical ailment, she was admitted but she is one of the most cooperative and compliant patients. With a smile, Mrs. Padomani Sardar says ‘I love to eat fruits and follow a strict diet. I also go for a morning walk every day when at home with a stick. I have been taken good care but now would want to go back home’.

Barkha Sen, a young 24-year-old girl for whom life had just started with all its flamboyance and joy, got knocked down by very old kidney disease. Being a professional dancer and a private-sector job holder, she had a committed eventful life. However, Barkha’s childhood kidney disorder reached a very critical stage requiring dialysis, eventually followed by a transplant as a part of her treatment. Twice to thrice week dialysis led to the disruption of her regular schedules and forced her to compromise on the quality of her life. It was during such distress, that Barkha’s aunt took the role of a knight in shining armor. She decided to donate one of her kidneys to Barkha and revive her normal course of life. It is indeed commendable that during this hour of crisis, neither Barkha nor her aunt ever gave up and held onto dear life with utmost grit and fortitude. Fate was unkind to young Pradeep who was detected with severe kidney disorder at an early age of 26. An IT engineer, tossing between a busy life and blooming career at a crucial juncture, he did not see this coming. During the search of a donor, Pradeep’s mother came forward who certainly put her son’s life and recovery before everything else in the world.
