It is advisable to consult an obstetrician before planning a pregnancy. This is known preconceptionally counseling, We have a  number of benefits for you and baby including evaluation of fitness for pregnancy, identifying pre-existing illnesses and modifying treatment of pre exciting illnesses.

Antenatal check up ore recommended every 4weeks till 7 months of pregnancy and 2 weeks till start of 9 months and weekly thereafter till delivery.

There is a list of investigations that is recommended in pregnancy which includes screening for anemia (Hb), infections NDRL, Hepatitis B, HIV, Blood sugar, blood group, urine testing, thyroid and ultrasounds as per recommendations. Testing for Chromosomal anomalies including Down’s syndrome. Your obstetrician may recommend more tests as per need.

High-risk pregnancy is the one that can jeopardize the mother or baby’s health. it includes anemia, high blood pressure, diabetes, heart illness, kidney problems, seizures, malnutrition, twins, etc, li also includes prior caesarean delivery; preterm birth, placenta previa, previous miscarriages, stillbirths, etc.

In a normal healthy pregnancy, 1 1 .5 to 16 kg of weight gain is recommended.

Walking for 1/2 hour is advisable in a healthy pregnancy. Antenatal exercises are very beneficial but should be done under supervision of an expert.

It can be prevented by taking food rich in Iron like dark green leafy vegetables, such as spinach and dried fruit, such as raisins and apricots  may require Iron supplements in the form of tablets or injections and blood transfusion in severe anemia.

Even if you have normal blood pressure before conception or in early pregnancy, there is a chance of you developing hypertension during the later part of the pregnancy. It may not have any symptoms and frequent health checkups is the best way to detect.

Premature labor is also called preterm labor. It’s when your body starts getting ready for birth too early in your pregnancy that is prior three weeks before your due date. The chance of certain complications is higher in twin pregnancy. Complications associated with a twin pregnancy including preterm labor, preterm birth, preclampslta,. gestational diabetes and growth problems. These problems can be managed by early detection and care.

Babies who are premature, premature rupture of membranes, small for gestational age, instrumental deliveries, babies of mothers with high-risk medical conditions like diabetes, etc may require a NICU admission under neonatalist.
